Teeth whitening is a non invasive cosmetic dental procedure that allows dentists to alter the colour of your teeth from the more natural creamy yellow to a whiter and brighter shade. If you are in Manchester or can travel into the city you can take advantage of our New Patient Offer. It is half price on the first visit if you pay on the day!
The first thing to bear in mind is that super bright white teeth may not be a natural occurrence. Hollywood and Tv has changed the way we view our teeth so a natural creamy colour now seems ‘yellow’ compared to the whitened and veneered teeth some Tv personalities and celebrities have.
Teeth can however become discoloured for a number of reasons, they can get darker with;
Some of these causes just need a simple cleaning with an airflow treatment to improve the colour of your teeth. Whatever the issue we can accommodate you and get a plan together that suits you at Deansgate Dental Studio
The best way to find out if you are suitable is to have a general check up with a dentist or dental therapist, this is so that we can check if you have any active dental problems.
If you have active gum disease or decay it can cause problems with the long term teeth health so these would need to be addressed first
We at Deansgate Dental Studio in our Manchester City centre location currently offer:
Airflow hygiene which is an advanced cleaning which can remove any surface stains. this is a good option if you drink a lot of tea and coffee, smoke or eat foods that stain your teeth.
Boutique teeth whitening is our go-to teeth whitening system. We use our state of the art intraoral scanners (no messy impressions that make you gag) which is instantly sent to our lab who then 3d print your teeth models and create some whitening trays for you. We then check these are fitting well and start the teeth whitening process which gently whitens your teeth over the next couple of weeks till you are happy with the colour.
In Office teeth whitening is another method where we use a special high strength bleaching system to whiten the teeth within a single visit.
Our whitening treatment options range from £145 for a airflow treatment, £499 for the classic boutique whitening system, £650 for the B1 shade guarantee system and then in office which starts from £800 per session.
There are plenty of claimed methods to whiten your teeth at home, some are damaging like grit based pastes which can wear down the enamel. Some are effective to keep your teeth close to their closest natural colour but only peroxide based whitening will actually alter the shade safely.
Teeth whitening can take up-to 4 weeks if you are using the at home kit from boutique.
Crowns and veneers are not possible to whiten, there is some possibility if you have very thin veneers whitening the teeth underneath can improve the shade.
In Manchester we have to follow the UK laws for teeth whitening which means we only offer whitening to over 18s, unless the patient requires it for a number of very specific reasons.
In-office is a much faster approach to whiten your teeth but it can come at a cost of increases sensitivity and increased cost. At-home whitening is slower but brings less sensitivity and is cheaper to carry out.
No, although there is no evidence to show negative outcomes to the baby, no-one wants to do those studies and cause harm for the sake of a small cosmetic treatment so we don’t do it.
You can whiten your teeth as much as you like and until the teeth are at a shade you like. However there are some effects if you over do it, you can get sensitivity in your teeth and gums, discoloration and in extreme cases enamel degradation.
Side effects are rare but can include sensitivity, gum irritation, and some people are non responders.
Some people start to see results within a week from at home whitening, in-office whitening will deliver results within the hour, airflow treatments will show results instantly.
The gels we use to bleach your teeth can cause sensitivity but this is usually transient and fades away once you have finished the treatment.
Sensitivity is greatly reduced if you use some sensitive toothpaste before you start whitening and during the process, you can also opt for lower concentration of gels, and opt for an at home kit instead of in surgery bleaching
Some over the counter products can help in limited circumstances – abrasive toothpastes can help remove smoking stains but will start to thin out your enamel which will make the teeth look yellower in the longer term as the natural yellower portion of the tooth shines through the now thinner white enamel part of the tooth.
Over the counter solutions are limited to a concentration which is 60x weaker than a dentists prescribed formulation, so while they will work the effect is very mild and can be unnoticeable
Yes, staining foods and habits can undo some of the work of your bleaching especially early on as the teeth are more porous and susceptible to picking up stains. however once you are past the initial period after your bleaching, stains can be removed easily by having an airflow treatment.
Internal or deep stains can be harder to manage and are less likely to be completely cleared by teeth bleaching, as the stain or deeper discoloration may be an indication of need for a root canal. Some severe staining or discoloration may need further interventions to manage and get a good result. If you have significant stains or discoloration a better option may be to look into having ceramic veneers fitted or composite bonding.
Sort of, it does have long term results, but your teeth naturally darken with age so that is a process that will continue in the background. But that is a slow process and whitening your teeth will give you a much whiter initial point and the good news is that if your teeth darken over the years it us very easy to top up the whitening again
Whitening whilst wearing braces with peroxide gels is not really possible, as the braces get in the way, but you should look into having airflow treatments during your braces treatment so that you keep the teeth as clean as possible and remove any stains which can build up.
If you want faster and more dazzling results you can look into composite bonding or ceramic veneers which are a great option to not only improve your teeth’s colour but also upgrade their shape and correct any minor straightness issues. Ceramic Veneers can be made in any shade and are designed digitally so we can plan what you are having before we touch your teeth.
Yes you can still undergo whitening but there may be increased sensitivity and this is unpredictable to how sensitive your teeth may be, so it may be best to look into other options if you would like to improve the look of your teeth and suffer from sensitivity.
He easiest way to keep the results you get are to avoid heavily staining foods and habits such as coffee, tea, smoking etc. You should also have regular dental cleanings with a hygienist (upto 4x per year)
There are no restrictions but some foods are riskier than others so it may be a good idea to hold off on the really staining foods for the first 2 weeks after you finish whitening
Results in these cases are very variable and may not help too much at all.
Yes, whitening is a very good pre work for veneers for example as it can reduce the amount of preparation needed, and improve the final shade too.
